Greetings in 2013: Pinterest fiend

Greetings and Salutations from 2013!
Every year I make a list of all the things I want to accomplish in the new year and usually i'm pretty good about crossing a few things off but this year was a bust i'm pretty sure I didn't accomplish one thing on the list in 2012. But 2013 is a new year and I am kicking it off by scratching off some small accomplishments: FINALLY completing some pinterest projects. Like many of you I'm sure you also think pinterest is made up of 50% crafts and 50% crack. And just like in 2012 i'm pretty sure I haven't done one thing that I have ever pinned but I can't stop pinning. First let me introduce you to the reason all of sudden I have caught the craft bug:

my new glue glun, Helga.

I haven't had a glue gun in probably six months. My two old crappy, cheap ones broke and I have been itching to get a new one but I knew Christmas was right around the corner and I was so happy I got one! Ahh! it feels great to not have fingerprints anymore.

And here is another reason why I have a craft bug up my butt, My kitchen. It's turn into a disaster which is pretty sad because I don't even have kids. And thanks to pinterst I've been really wanting to complete a few projects to redecorate.

I hate these curtains                                     This is all of my cake decorating crap
I bought these curtains cause I really
liked the pattern but they are too small

Messy table that we NEVER sit at

So January is my Pinterest Kitchen Mini Makeover. There are a few projects I have been itching to do off of pinterest and with trusty Helga I can finally start them. First project up is a new table runner.

A Burlap table runner to be exact. Aren't they pretty? I see them all the time and I drool all over them.

Now I can't have a full table runner, the ones that dangle off the table on both ends, because of my two demon cats.
Demon 1 and Demon 2 aka Mario and Luigi
They will pull that bitch off the table and run with it in a heartbeat. So my new table addition won't be a full runner.
I bought some burlap from Joann Fabrics for $3.99 for a yard.  The lace I already had on hand. If just want to make a runner I wouldn't recommend buying a full yard because you will have a crap ton left over.

Cut the burlap to size and then I hot glued the lace all the way around the edge of the burlap. You sew the lace if prefered but I found it really difficult with the gaps in both the lace and burlap.

You probably can't see it in the above picture but I also put a bead of glue all the way around the edge of the burlap on the bottom so the runner would stay in place and not skid around the table.
I love how it turned out:

The table runner looks lonely doesn't it? I wonder what will be crafted next to fix that?
If you would like to follow me on pinterest you can do that here. See if you can figure out what I'm going to make next!

Happy Pinning and Happy New Year!

  1. What type of glue gun is that? I bought one with a super small tip like that, turns out it was crap and doesn't get hot enough to melt the glue without squeezing the trigger so hard it hurts my hand after awhile. Since you have used yours can you tell me what kind?

Also, On your pretty-but-too-small curtains... please say that you are just going to make side panels out of say... linen or something?! They are so pretty!
